Workshop Review - Poetry from Art

Poetry from Art Workshop

Review

June Perkins, author, poet, blogger, photographer and videographer, workshopped with attendees to create poetry in response to art and photography.

Her latest workshop, Writing Poetry in Response to Art, showed how visual art could inspire poetry. Aspiring and emerging writers and poets were given an insight into thinking differently about writing poetry. This event was part of the mini Illumine Festival on 6-8th October, 2017 at Magda Community Artz, Brisbane.

This was a thought-provoking workshop which allowed one the freedom to write without boundaries. The creation of poetry or pieces of writing from a photograph/visual art piece was liberating. It allowed words to tumble onto the page from what was observed, sensed and heard within. It motivated one to write unhindered, to explore poetry with a new insight and confidence and was de-cluttering and a freeing experience.

This form of Art Therapy would fit well into Health and Well-being workshops for any organisation. Included is feedback from participants who are still talking about it.

“Tess Elliott (Art Therapist): Thanks for an artistic inspiring afternoon June, Kara and Maria… look forward to the next one"!

Kara McLeod:”What an inspiring, enjoyable afternoon. Thank you June, Maria and Tess.”
